Laryngoscopy is endoscopy of the larynx, a part of the throat. It is a medical procedure that is used to obtain a view, for example, of the vocal folds and the glottis. Laryngoscopy may be performed to facilitate tracheal intubation during general anaesthesia or cardiopulmonary resuscitation or for surgical procedures on the larynx or other parts of the upper tracheobronchial tree.
Doctors sometimes use a small device to look into your throat and larynx, or voice box. This device is called a Laryngoscope.
Use against COVID-19
Tracheal intubation should be performed by an experienced anesthesiologist with an experienced assistant (preferably also an anesthesiologist) and a nurse, to maximize patient safety (fig. 1) and to manage the severe hypoxemia and circulatory failure that might occur. Muscle relaxants are highly recommended.5 The video laryngoscope should be placed as soon as muscle relaxation is achieved, and tracheal intubation should be accomplished and confirmed as soon as possible (less than 15 to 20 s)
